A letter from Dr. Coppin:

South Bay Periodontics has organized, sponsored and run the Annual Hygiene Symposium for the past 14 years.  Don Echols held the first one in the back room of a local restaurant but it quickly grew into the event of the year that we’ve known and enjoyed for so long.  I absolutely loved the annual gathering of friends and colleagues at the Great Wolf Lodge.  I’ve been so grateful for our many co-sponsors over the years.  So grateful for all of my staff, especially Emily and my wife, Leslie, for all the countless hours poured into making the magic happen year after year.  So many fun and informative speakers, so many memories.  I will always remember emceeing my first symposium in 2010 right after graduating from UW.  I had no clue what I was doing and was practically shaking in my boots (most likely nervously adjusting my tie every few seconds).  But Don handed me the mic that morning and it’s been my job ever since.  We’ve tried our best to honor the legacy that he started.  One of a love for our dental community and a commitment to quality and fun continuing education.

The COVID pandemic forced us to cancel the symposium in 2020 and with all the ongoing uncertainties we were unable to plan the symposium for 2021. Having had this time to reflect, I have come to the very difficult decision to stop holding events of this scale.  I’ve gone back and forth on this so many times.  Quite frankly we had grown bigger than our ability as a single office to keep up with without sacrificing other worthy endeavors that we are equally passionate about.  I’m truly sad to see it go.  But I am also excited to be able to continue to offer continuing education via smaller and more intimate events in the future.   Please email us if you would like to be added to our waitlist for future events!
